Corrections Policy

We publish data at scale, and some of it will be wrong — because a source file was wrong, because our pipeline mishandled it, or because we made an editorial mistake. This policy is our commitment to finding out and fixing it visibly.
How to report an error
Email research@numberresearch.org with:
- the URL of the page in question;
- the specific figure or statement you believe is wrong;
- if possible, the official source you are comparing against and its date.
You do not need to prove the error to report it — a pointed question is enough for us to check.
What happens next
- Acknowledgment within 2 business days. We confirm we received the report and are checking it.
- Verification against source snapshots. We compare the published figure to the immutable source snapshot it was computed from (see Methodology) and to the current official source.
- Resolution within 10 business days for straightforward data checks. If verification requires more time — for example, an apparent discrepancy inside official sources themselves — we tell the reporter what is taking longer and why.
How corrections are published
- The page is fixed. The incorrect figure or statement is corrected, not quietly deleted.
- The correction is noted on the page. Corrected pages carry a note stating what changed and when.
- The correction is logged publicly. We maintain a public corrections log listing each confirmed correction with its date, so our error history is inspectable, not buried.
Distinctions we observe: a correction fixes an error we published; a source update reflects a change in the official source and is part of normal daily operation, not an error; a clarification rewords something true but confusing, and is noted when material.
If the source was wrong
When our figure faithfully reflected a source file that was itself later corrected by its administrator, we update to the corrected source and note the source-side change. We do not silently alter what a source said; the snapshot record is preserved either way.
Scope
This policy covers all published datasets, data notes, and research articles on NumberResearch.org. Complaints that our Editorial Standards were not met are handled through this same process.
